Transportation Design

Overview

Astrolabe Engineering provides full-scope transportation infrastructure design — from preliminary routing studies and design through to detail engineering — together with the cadastral and expropriation surveys that project-zone land assembly requires. With 5th-grade classification in Transportation Works Studies (cat. 10) on the Greek Registry of Consulting Engineering Firms, we serve public authorities, ministries, and design consortia on highway, road, interchange, railway, and road-safety projects at any scale.

• Highway design — Complete geometric design of new and upgraded highways: horizontal and vertical alignment, cross-sections, earthworks, drainage, structures and safety features, from concept through to construction drawings.
• Urban road network design — Design of urban arterial and local road networks, including traffic lanes, junctions, pedestrian infrastructure, utility coordination and compliance with applicable Greek and European standards.
• Interchanges design — Geometric and functional design of grade-separated interchanges: ramp configurations, weaving sections, sight-distance checks, traffic islands and coordination with the mainline alignment.
• Railway design — Track alignment, gradient and cross-section design for new railway lines and upgrades, coordinated with drainage, signalling and station infrastructure requirements.
• Road signage and safety design — Design of horizontal and vertical signage schemes, road markings, guardrails and passive safety measures in compliance with Greek and European road safety standards.
• Project zone cadastral and expropriation studies — Identification and measurement of all properties intersected by the road corridor, with ownership records, area calculations and the technical documentation required for expropriation and compensation procedures.

Processing Software

Transportation design work is carried out in ODOS 8, a dedicated road design software system developed in Greece and in continuous use across Greek road design practice since 1986. ODOS 8 handles the full design cycle — from conceptual alignment through to construction drawings — with real-time 3D modelling of the entire project, built-in OMOE-X design consistency checks (the Greek road design standard), at-grade intersection design, earthworks quantity estimates and direct export of annotated drawings in DWG format.
